Rosarito Beach, Mexico is a small resort town along the Mexican Baja peninsula. It is known internationally as a good surfing destination due to its close proximity to the US border. Two beaches in town have been known to have strong offshore surf, namely Rosarito beach in town and Baja Malibu on the north. Offshore, Rosarito Underwater Park can be an interesting venue for beginners. It features both soft and hard beach conditions, making it suitable for beginners.
The tourist attractions in the area include the Miramar naval base, a marine aquarium, the Rosarito beach nightclub and a beautiful beachfront restaurant. It is also the site of the annual nudist parade, although there are reports that it is illegal to attend. Another attraction of the town is the rosarito beach casino, which is opened to players from December through March. Although many people visit San Miguel de Allende for the world famous chili festival, Baja mariachi bands and local cuisine are other attractions of the area.
Located in the northeastern part of town, Hugo Torres Chabert is Mexico’s most popular surfing spot. Chabert is well-known among surfers for its large waves and clean, sheltered waters. Chabert is considered relatively safe, even by Mexico standards, and has good waves for beginners who want to learn to surf. Chabert is a three-year term facility, although it is possible to extend your stay for up to six months at a time.
The third most popular surfing destination in Rosarito de Los Teques (the island’s name is derived from Spanish and means “three-year term”) is Hugo Torres Chabert. A former schoolboy who moved to Los Teques in his mid-teens, Chabert has become one of the best surfers on the island. Chabert was also a bodyguard and a coach before taking up surfing, and he has had no shortage of experience dealing with lifeguards. He is popular among surfers because of his large physical presence and his outgoing personality.
For a visit that takes you deep into the tropical interior, you should head out from the town of Rosarito towards Playa Blanca. There, you will find a stretch of beautiful white sand where you can snorkel and observe sea turtles play. One of the major attractions of the area, Mi sin el Desenvoyados, is only accessible by boat, so you may want to consider renting a boat for the day if you are not planning to stay overnight. The natural harbor is full of tourists, however, and is another place to explore.
The final part of your vacation to Los Teques, Los Horchos, is to explore the town below. Here, you will find a more rural, unpolluted environment, as well as access to some of the best beaches in Los Angeles. In particular, there is a small but busy beach known as Playa Blanca, which is the main beach here. It is crowded, although, so you may want to rent a car or take a taxi.
